Characters: When you
first pick up this play, you'll be confused by all the character names. I guess this is
the main reason why I established this portion of my web, at least you have a character
intro which you can refer to during the play.

| Lysander (left) and Hermia (right)
|
| | Lysander is in love with Hermia, unfortunately, he doesn't have the love of Hermia's
father Egeus, who was highly against their marriage. | | | It was a happy ending since they(Hermia and Lysander) finally got to
be together at the end. | |
|
| | Hermia is an upper class lady and the
daughter of Egeus. She has the love of both Lysander
and Demetrius, but Lysander is the only one she loves. | | | Hermia's father Egeus wants her to marry Demetrius
instead of Lysander. He was extremely mad to hear her
daughter's refusal. | |

| | Demetrius loved Hermia
but loved Helena not. He and Lysander are rivals in this
complicated love triangle. | | | He doted on Helena before meeting Hermia, and now he had changed his
mind, he could not escape Helena's pursue. | | | The fairies from the fairyland dipped a potion into Demetrius' eyes, making him
fall in love with Helena. The two happy pair, along with Lysander
and Hermia got married at the Duke's Palace.
|
| | Just as I said above, before meeting Hermia,
Demetrius doted on Helena.
Therefore, Helena fell madly in love with him. However, Demetrius
had changed his mind about Helena, leaving her alone. | | | Helena didn't give up that easily, she followed Demetrius everywhere
until Demetrius finally fell in love with her as a result of the love potion.
|
| | Hippolyta, the Queen of Amazons, was
captured during a war by the Duke of Athens, Theseus. The Duke
decided to marry her "in a different Key". | | | Theseus: Now, fair Hippolyta, our nuptial hour draws on apace;
four happy days bring in another moon: but, O, methinks, how slow this old moon wanes! Hippolyta: Four days will quickly steep themselves in night: four nights will
quickly dream away the time; and then the moonm like to a silver bow new-bent in heaven,
shall behold the night of our solemnities.
| |
| | Theseus is the Duke of Athens. The play
begins with him talking to the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta
about their upcoming marriage. | | | In the begging, Theseus was against the love affair between Lysander
and Hermia; but at the end, these two lovers finally got
married with his consent. | | | Speech with Hippolyta in Act i, Scene i. | | <<Back To MainPage of A Midsummer Night's
Dream>> |
